RAD Tech Student Picked for Elite Group

Lindsey Wilson, a radiologic technology student at Concorde Career College, has been selected to participate in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) 2016 Student Leadership Development Program.

The ASRT represents more than 153,000 members who perform medical imaging procedures or plan and deliver radiation therapy treatments.

After submitting an application and short essay, Wilson was chosen as one of 99 radiologic students from around the country to participate. She will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2016 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting June 23-26 in Las Vegas.

"It's such an honor for one of our students to be accepted into this elite program," said Jennifer Daniels, BSRS, RT(R) (CT), Director of Concorde's Radiologic Technology Program in Memphis, TN. "We couldn't be more proud and are really looking forward to what she will be bringing back to share with our current students and future students."

In addition, Wilson will attend educational courses specifically designed for students, attend the House of Delegates meetings and be assigned a professional mentor.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to network with powerful people in my field and being exposed to knowledge about different techniques and environments for radiologic technology," said Wilson.

 

What does a radiologic technologist do?

 

A Radiologic Technologist or Radiographer is a medical professional who performs diagnostic X-ray examinations to provide physicians with images to assist in the diagnosis of a disease or trauma. More than 50 percent of Radiographers work in hospitals while the remaining work in free-standing diagnostic clinics, physician group practice/clinics and surgery centers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 9% growth in the imaging field by 2024. As the population grows older, there will be an increase in medical conditions that require imaging as a tool for making diagnoses.
