As a Medical Lab Technician (MLT), you are a critical member of a healthcare facility. You’ll work with physicians, lab managers, or lab technologists to conduct lab tests. Medical Lab Techs help doctors detect diseases or illnesses and determine patient treatment options.

Medical Laboratory Technician (Associate of Applied Science) Mission Statement

The Medical Laboratory Technician program at Concorde Career College provides students with training in the classroom and laboratory, as well as real-world experiences that allow them to utilize fully-equipped, professional-grade laboratories. MLT students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to accurately perform diagnostic testing in all major areas of the laboratory. The program prepares students to successfully complete national certification examinations offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) and state certification examinations (if applicable).

Learning Objectives / Instructional Outcomes

Medical Laboratory Technician courses include general education courses covering mathematics, written, verbal, and nonverbal communications; interpersonal skills; critical thinking; the sciences; and the humanities. Learning objectives include achievement of sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical skills in preparing blood, urine and biological samples for analysis; use of laboratory equipment to detect microorganisms; monitor tests and procedures; analyze chemical content of fluids; and have a working comprehension of the technical aspects of blood banking.
