Career Overview

Medical assistants help prepare patients for their appointments, gather and send lab samples, and help run the medical office, handling referrals appointments, payment, record-keeping and ordering supplies. 

What do Medical Assistants Do?

  • Take patient histories and vital signs (blood pressure, etc.)
  • Enter data into patient records
  • Handle administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments and calling in referrals
  • Keep supply inventories in treatment rooms and the office stocked
  • Gather blood or other samples and preparing them for laboratory tests
  • Assist doctors or nurses during examinations
  • Administer basic clinical tasks, such as cleaning and dressing wounds

    Curriculum

    The medical assistant diploma program at Concorde covers computer applications, medical record keeping, and clinical skills including blood draws, vital sign measurement and more. You’ll also learn to collect and prepare samples for lab testing.

    The medical assistant curriculum is designed to provide you with the theory and critical concepts, as well as the opportunity to practice hands-on through on-campus labs. Through the medical assistant program you will further build your confidence with practical application during your externship experience.
