Career Overview

Medical assistants help prepare patients for their appointments, gather and send lab samples, and help run the medical office, handling referrals appointments, payment, record-keeping and ordering supplies. 

Medical Assistant's Primary Duties

  • Taking patient histories and vital signs (blood pressure, etc.)
  • Entering data into patient records
  • Handling administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments and calling in referrals
  • Keeping supply inventories in treatment rooms and the office stocked
  • Gathering blood or other samples and preparing them for laboratory tests
  • Assisting doctors or nurses during examinations
  • Administering basic clinical tasks, such as cleaning and dressing wounds

    Curriculum

    The medical assistant diploma program at Concorde San Diego covers computer applications, medical record keeping, and clinical skills including blood draws, vital sign measurement and more. You’ll also learn to collect and prepare samples for lab testing.
