On the nomination form for its Torch Award, Concorde lists its five mission values – integrity, respect for the individual, customer service, teamwork and achievement – and states that any nominee and possible winner should inhabit these qualities.

It’s easy to understand why Jean Thornblom was the recipient of the Torch Award at Concorde – San Antonio.

Jean has been the Learning Resource Coordinator at the San Antonio campus for the last six years. She also serves as the campus’s Social Media Liaison, the campus photographer, Online champion, test proctor and serves on the Lamplighter Committee. She does a little bit of everything at Concorde and does it with enthusiasm and excellence.

Jean is a key cog in the wheel that keeps churning to provide Concorde students with a top-notch health care education.

More about Jean

Let’s learn more about Jean from the person who nominated her for the San Antonio Torch Award – that campus’s Director of Student Affairs, Stacie Williams.

“Jean consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty (achievement),” Williams said. “She works tirelessly to assist our students, showing great patience with them (respect for the individual, customer service). Jean always does more than is expected (achievement). She exemplifies integrity. Students, faculty and staff have come to trust and rely upon her when they need anything.”

Jean also thrives at all her various side duties as well, according to Williams. “Likes” on the campus Facebook page have gone from 800 to 2,436 since she’s assumed responsibilities for the page. Jean sends thorough reports to the Dean, Director of Student Affairs and Program Directors as Online Champion, letting them know the status of each student. She is considered a favorite test proctor because of her manner in working with students.

“On student satisfaction surveys, Jean is the most mentioned, by far, of all faculty and staff,” Williams said. “She gets over 30 mentions on each survey.”

Helping students with health care education in the LRC

Most of all, Jean creates and maintains a great learning environment for students seeking their health care education in the Learning Resource Center. She works late most nights making sure every student who needs assistance gets it. She also designed an incredible website where students seeking their health care education could find comprehensive program-specific information as well as any resources they might need.

“Jean is always team spirited, offering to help others in Student Services and Graduate Employment,” Williams said. “She assists with all campus and community events. When I nominated her for the Torch Award, other departments came forward to let me know how she helps them.

“Jean is definitely a ‘we’ person and not a ‘me’ person.”

As such, Jean Thornblom is a most worthy Torch Award winner!

Davina Thomas-Clark | Medical Assistant, Vocational Nurse graduate

“I have taken the MA program and the LVN program. Concorde is a wonderful school. There is a difference between passion and a paycheck, and most of my instructors had a passion for what they do. The program was challenging but well worth it. I love this college!”

Marcus Streator | Respiratory Therapy graduate

“Without the support of certain instructors … I would not have pushed myself to grasp the concepts and pass my boards on the first attempt. Once I passed my boards, it was less than one month after that I landed my first Respiratory Therapist job where I am currently working with so much joy every day.”
