Throughout the year, our employees pride themselves on giving back to the communities they live in. During the month of June, employees from our home office volunteered a few afternoons at Harvesters’, the Kansas City area’s food bank. Harvesters services as many as 66,000 people a week and therefore needs over 184,000 volunteer hours donated every year.
Our volunteers spent some of their time sorting donated food that is then redistributed back out to soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters. They also helped assemble kits for Harvesters’ BackSnack program. While it was heartbreaking to find out no school means no lunch for a lot of area kiddos, our volunteers were happy to be a part of organizing this program that helps keep these kids fed over the summer months.
It was also great to see so many families donating their time. One Mom informed our volunteers that her family donates their time every Wednesday when the kids are out of school. Even over winter and spring break!
We are lucky to have such devoted employees who are willing to support their communities by donating their time to those less fortunate.
